La Candela’s Code of Conduct

La Candela – Berlin is a diverse community that maintains a reputation as a friendly, welcoming, inspiring and dynamic group. We strongly encourage everybody and every-body to participate, whichever dancing-rated skill and the role you feel like learning, providing a harassment-free space experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion.  We’d like to keep it that way, which is why we ask all attendees, organizers, and sponsors to follow this code of conduct (CoC).

If you have questions regarding this Code of Conduct, please contact La Candela team. Your questions will only be seen by the members of the CoC workgroup and treated confidentially.

Any form of written, social media, or verbal communication that can be offensive or harassing to any student or teachers is not allowed at La Candela. Please inform the teachers if you feel a violation has taken place and the team will address the situation.

Participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from our classes without a refund at the discretion of La Candela – Berlin teachers.

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion; sexual images in public spaces; deliberate intimidation; stalking; following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the staff immediately. La Candela’s staff at the moment is represented by Ido and Maria. Please notice that all reports will be kept confidential.

What to do when you witness a Code of Conduct violation?

All reports of incidents are confidential! We will not share the name of the reporter in any way.

Please let someone of the organizing team know

Of course, we do not want you do get into a more uncomfortable position as you maybe already are. You do not need to interact with the person(s) who presumably violated the Code of Conduct.

In every class you will find at least one teacher but you can always contact them through our social media channels (Fb private accounts, PM to La Candela official page or WhatsApp private numbers). All people who are working on La Candela are very aware of the Code of Conduct.

Important questions:

  • Who? Could you see the names of the people involved? Was it a student, assistant, teacher, service person, organizer, ..?
  • Where? In a class? In a club? Online? During a community hang-out? …
  • What?
    • What were the circumstances that led to the incident?

    • …,

The purpose of the Code of Conduct

Our Code of Conduct does not exist because we expect to deal with any such problems. We trust all-out teachers, students and organizations we interact with.

On the contrary, it exists to help give attendees confidence that they are attending an event where high standards of behavior are the norm, where everyone is aware of those standards, and that something will be done should it fall short.

Please always be kind and courteous. There’s never a need to be mean or rude or disrespectful. Thank you for helping make this a welcoming, friendly community for all.
