Defending New Era Cuban Salsa, Cuban Critics against the world

In the last years, I hear more and more a disappointed Cuban voice about the European Salsa scene: “You Europeans, you don’t dance like us Cubans”, “What are you making of Salsa?! it’s just a street dance”, “Why are you dancing Yoruba dances in a Salsa song?”, “We are defending the Cuban arts!”. These are all examples of a simple wish – to preserve the dance as it is, or was in Cuba, at least the way they view it. And while I understand their wish to defend the authenticity of the dance, it is as though they would say: “Your way of enjoying dance is not valid”
