Son Cubano Moderno - The Dance
Son Moderno is a contemporary evolution of Son Cubano. Like the traditional Cuban Son, it is an elegant couple-focused dance, but it adds a layer of structure, technique, styling, and sensuality that can help Soneros connect to contemporary Son Songs (such as Leoni Torres).
The course
Building up on the fundamentals of Son Cubano Moderno we will learn new elements that are making it such a unique dance. We will also try to combine more elements together making rutinas to become more natural in the dance.
How long Should I dance salsa before?
The Fundamentals of Salsa should be known (Salsa Technique Foundation in La Candela) - which means about 6-8 months of Salsa exeprience is recommended.
Do I need to know Son Cuban Tradicional?
It is not required to know Son Cuban Tradicional before the course, however it helps to appreciate the dance and gain context of the difference between the Cuban tradition to the evolution.
I am an experienced Son Cubano dancer, do I need to do the fundamentals course?
You should still attend the fundamentals. Son Moderno is an additional layer on top of Son Cubano tradicional that you are not likely familiar with. And then, some things you might know from Son Tradicional are done slightly differently in Son Moderno.
I don't like the idea of evolution of a traditional dance
Son Cubano Moderno is an extra layer that can allow you to express more in the dance, and draws strong influence from the traditional dance. We encourage you to try before you judge, at least for us, it opened a door to a path that allows us to express ourselves in a unique way that most Cuban dances are missing:
- With new Contemporary Son Songs, which have greatly evolved, Son Moderno feels a lot truer to the music.
- Son Tradicional is a simple dance in essence. If you feel like a challenge or to expand your possibilities, give it a try.
- Son Traditicional expresses courtships & courtesy. Son Cuban Moderno often expresses Passion & Romance - emotions that are lovely to add to your repertoire.
- Son Moderno is a more demanding dance in terms of technique - so your level of leading, following and style will improve significantly.
The teachers
Ido & Agnita are both officially trained & certified as dance teacher for Son Moderno by Danger, Yuanisy and Marielkis - The creators of the style. They are experts in both Son Tradicional and Moderno and continue to develop the style of the dance with their own unique flavor.
